It is my sincere pleasure to be able to greet you on behalf of the Eritrean Sports Federation in North America (ERSFNA). It gives me great pleasure and honor to invite you to ERSFNA's 28th Annual Eritrean Sports Festival celebration commencing on June-30th to July-6th in the beautiful city of San Diego, California.
San Diego, located in the heart of southern California, is the perfect place to host our week long sports tournaments and cultural celebrations. This tourist hub is known for its diverse population, mild year-round climate, world-class attractions, vibrant waterfront, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, historic architecture and varied recreation options will make for an exciting destination for all our guests.
The celebration of this year's annual tournament will mark the third time that San Diego is hosting with the first occasion in 1999 and the second in 2009. Understanding the uniqueness of this year's festival, the Organizing Committee and local businesses along with the Eritrean & Eritrean-American Community in San Diego are working hard to make the 28th Annual Festival the most successful event. ERSFNA is grateful for the wonderful cooperation we are receiving from all throughout this process.
On behalf of ERSFNA, I would also like to commend Team Adulis from Seattle, Washington and Team Dahlak from Denver, Colorado for their outstanding efforts and professionalism they displayed in taking part for the 2013 host team bid process. The Teams' organizing committee, and in general, the Eritrean communities worked tirelessly to secure the 2013 bid. Their passion, love and readiness are highly commendable. ERSFNA hope the experience gained from this process will be a stepping stone for future success. We look forward to seeing Seattle & Denver as a hosts of the annual tournament in the near future.
ERSFNA continues to provide the most unique stage for all Eritreans from all corners of the world to come together to celebrate our diversity, establish connections, and re-discover long lost friends, while having a great time. It also lays out the new challenges we are undertaking in the coming decade. In the last 27 years, ERSFNA has undergone significant changes demonstrating its commitment to Eritreans, at home and abroad, by bridging the cultural gap while maintaining the value of diversity. Furthermore, it continues to foster unity among our people by nurturing the youth in athletics and cultural endeavors. As always, we strive live by our motto "Building Unity through Sports". Over the years, ERSFNA has experienced tremendous success and will continue to maintain our core values and firm mission.
Team members, guests and fans, you are the heart and soul of ERSFNA. Your continued support is what drives the organization to a brighter future. On behalf of ERSFNA, I would also like to extend my special thanks to all European teams who have been coming to the U.S. to join their brothers and sisters to take part in a friendly sporting event. . Their effort, hard work and positive contribution is very much appreciated. And last but not least, our Vendors are the catalyst of our festival. My hat goes off to them. Be sure to support our participating merchants by taking your time to browse through the various booths. You will find a wide variety of goods and services from authentic Eritrean imports such as, food, arts, crafts, festival souvenirs and other useful or fun memorabilia of your visit to our festival. All of you have made ERSFNA one of the most important Eritrean organizations in the Diaspora and turned the festival into an event not to be missed year in and year out. I encourage your feedbacks and input and will work hard to implement the necessary measures to make your ERSFNA experience memorable. Together, we can cohesively continue to take ERSFNA on a pathway to achieve bigger and better accomplishments.
On behalf of ERSFNA, I would also like to welcome team Norway to San Diego. I congratulate them for their persistent effort to participate in our premier sporting event with their fellow Eritrean brothers and sisters. It was a great pleasure to have them in Dallas (2008) and San Diego (2009). The returning 2009 champion has earned the respect of all teams and fans with their discipline and talent.
In conclusion, it gives me great pleasure to say that ERSFNA's 2013 preparation is going very well. We are excited about the great opportunities that the beautiful city of San Diego has to offer our guests. We have acquired the services of Four Points by Sheraton San Diego as our Head Quarter hotel. We also have secured a great venue, UCSD RIMAC Arena, for our cultural celebrations.
